Education advocate and philanthropist Susie Lee has raised more than $850,000 over the last three months in her bid to represent Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District and has about $1.2 million saved in the bank, according to early fundraising numbers from her campaign.

Lee’s second quarter haul is about $300,000 more than what she raised in the first three months of 2018. She has also increased the amount of cash she has put away by about $200,000 — up from $1 million at the end of March — ahead of what is likely to be a fierce general election fight against Republican businessman Danny Tarkanian, who narrowly lost the seat by 1.3 points in the 2016 election.

Similar to prior quarters, Lee contributed some in-kind expenses to her campaign over the last three months totaling less than $4,000. Lee has raised a total of $2 million since entering the race for the 3rd District in September.

A spokesman for Tarkanian’s campaign did not respond to a request on Monday for the businessman’s second quarter fundraising totals. However, Tarkanian reported raising about $130,000 between April 1 and May 23 ahead of the primary election and raised $430,000 in the first three months of 2018, including a $50,000 loan. (Tarkanian has loaned his campaign $215,000 over the cycle so far in addition to a little less than $14,000 in in-kind contributions.)

The 3rd Congressional District, which stretches all the way from Summerlin to Searchlight and the state’s southernmost tip, is currently represented by Rep. Jacky Rosen who defeated Tarkanian in 2016. The Democratic congresswoman is vacating her seat to challenge U.S. Sen. Dean Heller for his seat in November.

Democrats currently have a narrow 6,000-person voter registration advantage over Republicans in the district.
