The high court’s Wednesday ruling does not absolve Lombardo of wrongdoing, but it opens the door for a dismissal of the case down the line.

A Nevada Commission on Ethics review panel has recommended the commission develop an opinion on an allegation that Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve violated ethics laws when she failed to disclose a professional relationship with a law firm that also worked on a home development project that came before the council.

Ross Armstrong, the executive director of the commission, said people — namely government officials — may not be aware of the resources the board provides to demystify ethics laws and ensure they are in compliance with the laws.

Attorneys for the governor have vehemently pushed back against the commission attorney’s legal analysis that cited Lombardo for 34 distinct violations of two state ethics statutes, for a total of 68 violations.

State officials presented to the Senate on Wednesday $233 million in proposed cuts from the health care budget that will slash key programs for low-income Nevadans and significantly pare back mental health services to ease a budget crisis caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
