Mass freezing of unemployment benefits debit cards left claimants with few options

Bank of America froze more than 25,000 Nevada unemployment insurance debit cards from July through February while the state fielded an onslaught of unemployment claims — a move that officials say prevented payouts on fraudulent claims but also frustrated many legitimate claimants who were cut off from crucial payments for months at a time.

First week of August sees rise in unemployment claims, fall in PUA claims

The first complete week of unemployment benefits for the month — almost five months since the statewide shutdown that led to Nevada having the highest unemployment rate in the county — saw the fourth highest week in state history in continued claims for those who are filing weekly for benefits and the eleventh highest week for initial claims.

Lawyers predict influx of eviction cases as state phases out moratorium and renters await unemployment benefits

Experts estimate about 10 to 13 percent of renters, or more than 100,000 households, are behind on rent. Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Thursday a gradual lift of the eviction moratorium at a time when thousands are facing potential eviction notices and the state's unemployment rate, which peaked at more than 28 percent in April, is estimated to be worse than that seen in the Great Depression.
