City programs aim to help unhoused people move into employment, stability

The program began in 2015 when Volunteers of America and then-Councilwoman Neoma Jardon had the idea to start an employment program for the unhoused population. Since then, 110 people have graduated from the program.

District judge dissolves restraining order against temporary shelter in ongoing lawsuit

The Tuesday hearing addressing the temporary restraining order against the shelter was just one battle in a greater conflict over the legality of the temporary shelter. The attorneys and judge are scheduling an evidentiary hearing which will review what potential harm the shelter presents to nearby property owners and decide whether a permanent injunction is necessary.

Finance expert to Reno council: Big drop in revenue coming

With business closures across the state, a drop in tax revenue could lead to millions of dollars in lost revenue for municipalities, Reno Finance Director Deborah Lauchner said in a presentation to the City Council on Wednesday. Although city staff are looking at three scenarios including a “doomsday” case, Lauchner said it is still too early to tell how large the hit to city services will be.

Reno mayor to headline fundraiser for councilwoman’s opponent

Schieve is scheduled to headline a campaign kickoff event for Britton Griffith, an executive with Reno Engineering and city planning commissioner, on Oct. 24 at the Lake Mansion in Reno. Griffith is one of two challengers running against Brekhus, running for her third term to represent Ward 1, which covers portions of downtown and west Reno.
